Project: Aftergrad NB: Automated Application for Admission to New Brunswick Universities

Aftergrad NB is a new initiative to increase enrolment in post-secondary education in New Brunswick. The research will assess the impact of two interventions: providing up-to-date labour market information and auto-completing applications to all four provincial universities for level two high school students.   Ten schools will be included in the study. Participating high schools will reflect the province’s diversity, and will include four Anglophone schools, four Francophone schools, and two schools with large numbers of Aboriginal students.

Through attendance at a seminar on labour market trends, 300 grade twelve students will be given information about upcoming labour market shortages in the province. After the seminar, students will complete a short survey. University application forms will be completed for 150 students from five high schools (the experimental group) to the public universities in the province. The post-secondary education pathways of the experimental group and the control group will be compared with each other and with the student cohort not involved in the research.
