The non-profit sector should really be talking about open data

It’s well past time that the non-profit sector started having a serious conversation about open data.

While government presses the charitable sector to collaborate, amalgamate, and merge to reduce redundancies in service, charities fight tooth and nail to keep their autonomy. The funding climate is built to be competitive, so there’s no reason charities should talk, let alone share data. The goal of accomplishing social good through the sharing of data is innately at odds with a non-profit’s need to survive.
