Invitation to Participate in Researchers/Practitioners of Mindfulness Network

Originally posted on October 27, 2015 by myUNBnews

Over the past decade Mindfulness, especially in its MBSR form, has become recognized as an effective method of relieving a variety of health issues from chronic pain to stress. Finding resources in Fredericton and environs, however, is not always easy and making connections with others can be difficult.

The aim is to create a hub that would bring researchers and practitioners together with a variety of aims: to meet each other and become familiar with ongoing work; to support ongoing work and stimulate new projects; and to support a range of initiatives that might include a website to increase awareness of mindfulness activities and research projects in our region and a lecture/workshop series that would highlight local knowledge and bring visiting experts to town. They are also interested in networking with mental health services at the Universities and in supporting the new UNB Society for Meditation, which holds open mindfulness sessions on Fridays, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., in Marshall D’Avray, Rm 308 (Rm 120 on October 30).

If you are interested in creating a “mindfulness hub” please come to a brown-bag lunch meeting on November 3 in MMH 102 (Margaret McCain Hall) from noon to 1 p.m. If you can’t make it, but are interested in contributing, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. In addition, if you know someone researching in the area or a practitioner who would be interested in contributing to this endeavor, please feel free to pass this message on. If you can, please RSVP so that there is a general sense of numbers.
