RESEARCH NETWORK INVITES NEW BRUNSWICKERS TO BECOME GOVMAKERS

The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network Announces The Second Annual GovMaker Conference, An Open Data and Open Government Event.

The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network (NBSPRN) is proud to host the 2015 GovMaker Conference on November 23rd and 24th at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton. This year’s event explores innovative and engaging models of 21st century citizenship and governance in New Brunswick.

Co-presented with the New Brunswick Provincial Government, GovMaker is an opportunity for researchers to propel innovative ideas beyond the academy by sharing their findings with a broader audience, fostering an interconnected environment for evidence-based decision making.

This year’s Conference will offer insights on 21st century citizenship and governance through a variety of topics, ranging from public engagement to design literacy.

Featured speakers will include Nora Young, creator and host of CBC’s Spark and author of The Virtual Self; Don Lenihan, Senior Associate with the Policy and Engagement at Canada 2020, and Ontario’s Principal Advisor on the Open Dialogue Initiative; Henry Mintzberg, Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies at McGill University; Santiago Siri, President and co-founder of DemocracyOS; Dana Chisnell, Design Researcher at the United States Digital Service and co-author of The Handbook of Usability Testing; and Zaid Hassan, Co-founder of Reos Partners and author of the Social Labs Revolution.

The two-day conference will offer concurrent sessions within two streams: 21st Century Citizenship, and 21st Century Governance.

To register for the event, please visit the official 2015 GovMaker Conference website at www.govmakerconference.ca. There you will find additional information about GovMaker and our featured speakers, as well as the event agenda, important news & announcements, and content from last year’s GovMaker Conference.

GovMaker is part of a growing movement to open government – to advance citizen engagement and create a more collaborative democracy. Providing a platform to enable new and creative ways to tackle some of the province’s biggest challenges, GovMaker seeks to improve the future of governance in New Brunswick.

An open government strives for transparency, encourages civic participation, and promotes collaboration. The late Hon. Andy Scott had this same vision when he founded the New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network. Structured on the value of networked governance, NBSPRN takes a horizontal approach to policy making by bringing together citizens from across sectors: community organizations, civil servants, policy makers, business leaders, and academics. These types of crosssectoral networks represent the combinations needed to increase citizen participation and create a more open form of government – one that develops solutions with society, not for society.

Join us in this exciting collaboration to improve the future of 21st century citizenship and governance!
