Nominations being accepted for Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Excellence in Aging

18 July 2013 FREDERICTON (GNB)

Nominations are being accepted until Friday, Aug. 30, for the second annual Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Excellence in Aging. The award highlights efforts to improve the lives of seniors in New Brunswick.

Nominations are being accepted from communities, individuals, business and not-for-profit organizations by Lt.-Gov. Graydon Nicholas and the Atlantic Institute. Nicholas established the award in 2012 in conjunction with the institute.

“This award is meant to honour those who recognize the value of seniors – perhaps it is a medical professional, a service club or even one volunteer who gives back in an outstanding way,” said Nicholas.

Growing up in the Maliseet culture, Nicholas has long known the importance of elders.

“Our elders have knowledge, wisdom and life experience,” he said. “They are walking libraries and serve as inspirations to us all.”

The award will be presented at Government House in Fredericton in late September, coinciding with the 2013 Excellence in Aging Care Symposium.
