Professor Nicholas Léger-Riopel publishes Canada’s first Code de déontologie des médecins, Édition annotée et commenté

16036Professor Nicholas Léger-Riopel of the Faculty of Law at Université de Moncton publishes Canada’s first Code de déontologie des médecins, Édition annotée et commentée and is appointed as ethics instructor at the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick.

The first Code de déontologie des médecins, Édition annotée et commentée, was published this month by Éditions Yvon Blais, Thomson Reuters. The book was co-written by Professor Nicholas Léger-Riopel of the Université de Moncton Faculty of Law and Professor Patrice Deslauriers of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Law, with the collaboration of Maître Jean-Louis Baudouin, a recognized leader both nationally and internationally in the fields of professional entitlement and professional liability.

Drawing upon Canadian court decisions and disciplinary committees, the Code is concerned with the ethical and deontological framework of the medical activity, in conjunction with the growing complexity of digital and biotechnological techniques that are now an integral part of the medical practice, which is itself called upon to bring deep changes as group practices emerge and interdisciplinarity between health professionals grows.

The text is written for a readership that is made up not solely of legal experts, but also many different actors, such as researchers in health fields and regulated health professionals (physicians, nurses, dentists, etc.) and the many healthcare administrators and hospital management for whom ethical matters have become a part of routine practice.

Written in French, the book is available here: http://www.editionsyvonblais.com/detail-du-produit/code-de-deontologie-des-medecins/

Professor Léger-Riopel will also offer medical students medical ethics training at the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick, along with Professor Pierrette Fortin, Dean of Studies at the Edmundston campus. The appointment is part of the establishment of a health law research program at Université de Moncton aimed at fostering inter-faculty and interdisciplinary collaborations.
