The next Qualitative Lunch will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 12:30 in McCain Hall, room 306 – the Atlantic Centre for Qualitative Research and Analysis, St. Thomas University Campus.

At this time, the ACQRA is pleased to introduce Gül Çalışkan, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology) and Rory Crath, PhD. (Assistant Professor, School of Social Work) who will be discussing their research project entitled “Negotiating the Provincial Nominee Program:  Desires, Accommodation, and Citizenship in the Atlantic Provinces. A  Fredericton Pilot Study.”

(Lay title: PNP Immigrants in Fredericton)

Gül and Rory will discuss a project in the early stage of development. Their project aims to gather and examine pilot data on how the stated and implicitly understood expectations for the Provincial Nominee Program – an economic revitalization program designed to attract foreign business people and skilled workers to immigrate to, and settle in, New Brunswick – are interpreted and negotiated by people and families nominated through the program in the Atlantic Provinces. The pilot initiative focuses on the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program as it is locally articulated and negotiated in Fredericton. The aim of Drs. Çalışkan and Crath is to map both the governance boundaries, goals and investments of the PNP as understood by those designing and implementing the program, and the experiences of immigrant participants as they mediate governance expectations to forge new lives for themselves and their families in Atlantic Canada.

Sponsored by the ACQRA, both faculty and students are invited to participate in discussions of qualitative research and share their ideas.  Please feel free to bring your lunch.  Coffee and tea will be provided.
