2016 Canadian Knowledge Mobilization Forum

It was such a pleasure to attend and present at the 2016 Canadian Knowledge Mobilization Forum on June 28-29th. This year the Forum took place at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at the SickKids Hospital in Toronto, a beautiful and inspired space at the heart of Toronto’s Discovery District.

The Forum’s theme this year was “Systems and Sustainability – Creating enduring Knowledge Mobilization”, a relevant theme as we consider new and enduring ways to share knowledge and work collectively towards systems change. In the words of Peter N. Levesque, President of the Institute for Knowledge Mobilization, knowledge mobilization is concept important to ensure that:

“…the best of what we know – from research as well as practice – is ready for others to use. Used to build better organizations, processes, policies, programs, and the wide variety of ways in which we create value for society”.

The event certainly did not disappoint and I have returned home once again with new ideas and new connections! For those interested in learning more about the Forum and some of the amazing presenters and presentations, I encourage you to visit the detailed program session document (our presentation info is on Page 54!) or the Twitter hashtag #CKF16.

This is the third time I have attended the Forum – and this year was happy to be joined by two UNB Faculty and NBSPRN members Drs Scott Preston and Sue O’Donnell to present and share some of the work we have been collaborating on through DOCTalks. A not-for-profit organization that promotes cross-sector collaborations to create and share documentary media, DOCTalks is another way NBSPRN is working towards brokering connections, mobilizing knowledge and sharing the important work of our provincial researchers.
